One of the biggest objections to photo wallpaper (or custom-made wallpaper) for the children's room is that it is a lot more expensive than rolls of wallpaper, and why this comparison is often not entirely accurate.
In short
Photo wallpaper is usually more expensive per m2 than a roll of wallpaper, but many people forget that with a roll of wallpaper you also pay for the m2 you do not use. Therefore, for a wall, the difference is not as large as many people think. For larger spaces, this often does make a bigger difference.
The price difference at a glance
You can often get 3 drops from a roll of wallpaper with a standard wall height of 2.60m. You can therefore wallpaper a width of 1.5m with this.
Example wall width 2.5m:
For photo wallpaper, often only 1 wall is wallpapered as an accent wall. For the example, I will now assume a wall of 2.5m wide and 2.6m high.
2.5 x 2.6 = 6.5m2
In this example, we assume that we can get 3 drops from a roll and thus can wallpaper a width of 1.5m at the same wall height.
For a wall of 2.5m wide, you then need 2 rolls of wallpaper, or 6.5m2 of photo wallpaper.
A roll of wallpaper costs € 95,-: 2x 95 = € 190,-.
1m2 photo wallpaper costs € 35,-: 6.5 x 35 = € 227.50.
Difference: € 37.50 for a whole wall.
Example wall width 3.5m:
For a wall of 3.5m wide and 2.6m high, it is a total of 9.1m2.
Here too, we assume that we can get 3 drops from a roll and thus can wallpaper a width of 1.5m at the same wall height.
For a wall of 3.5m wide, you then need 3 rolls of wallpaper, or 9.1m2 of photo wallpaper.
A roll of wallpaper costs € 95,-: 3x 95 = € 285,-.
1m2 photo wallpaper costs € 35,-: 9.1 x 35 = € 318.50
Difference: € 33.50 for a whole wall.
Choose your own preference
Photo wallpaper is indeed slightly more expensive than rolls of wallpaper, but the difference here is often smaller than people think.
Both options also have their own pros and cons. Photo wallpaper is often slightly more unique, the print is designed differently, and wallpapering is a bit faster because you are not dealing with a repeating print that you have to find again with every new drop.
With a roll of wallpaper, you can often get started faster, you can handle deviating walls or ceilings more easily, and you can more easily buy an extra roll if you want to. And it is worth noting that for some prints, such as stripes or blocks, photo wallpaper is not necessary at all!
So choose the wallpaper that best suits you and the children's room!
